Nokia Messaging Servers in India to Provide Telecom Security

News|December 6th, 2010

Nokia had announced that it had installed servers in India for allowing Indian security agencies to intercept email, messenger services and other data sent through Nokia devices. The company, however at the same time informed its customers that their trust and privacy will be maintained.

“We have installed Nokia Messaging servers, which includes authentication and enterprise servers, in India on November 5. Nokia is fully committed to protecting its users’ privacy and maintaining their trust, while at the same time fulfilling its public responsibility and legal obligations. As a responsible corporate citizen, we follow all local laws and regulations that are required by the government authorities”, said the company in an official statement.

The move made by Nokia will be mounting more pressure on the BlackBerry smartphone makers Research In Motion (RIM) to take similar steps, thereby allowing Indian agencies to decode the encrypted messages and emails going through BlackBerry network in India.
